A Note About My Evaluation Criteria
While many mushroom coffee brands promote benefits such as improved focus, energy, immunity, digestion, and stress support, I did not rank these products based on their claimed health benefits. Many of those claims would require consistent use over an extended period and cannot be fairly evaluated from a single cup or even a few servings.
Because of that, I focused my reviews on factors I could directly compare, including flavor, aroma, mixability, residue, ingredients, caffeine content, and overall value. The one exception is Everday Dose, which I've been drinking regularly now for over a year. Over time, I've personally noticed some positive changes, including better concentration and sleep. I've also noticed thicker hair and nails, maybe due to the collagen? However, this is my personal experience, and your experience may be different.
Taste Test of the Best Mushroom Coffee Brands
To determine which of these products deserved a spot among the best mushroom coffee brands, I evaluated each one based on taste, mixability, ingredients, and overall value.
Everyday Dose
Everyday Dose has been my favorite mushroom coffee so far. The flavor reminds me a bit of Sanka instant coffee: smooth, creamy, mellow, and low in acidity without the bitter aftertaste that some instant coffees can have. It blends exceptionally well and, unlike some of the other brands I tested, leaves absolutely no residue or sediment at the bottom of the cup.
I also appreciate that it doesn't have an earthy or noticeable mushroom flavor, making it taste much closer to regular coffee than many mushroom blends on the market. Although I occasionally add a dropper full of my homemade polypore tincture, the coffee itself remains smooth and easy to drink.
I've tried both mild roast and medium roast and definitely prefer the medium roast because it has a richer, stronger coffee flavor. While Everyday Dose contains only two mushrooms, lion's mane and chaga, the company uses 100% fruiting body extracts, which many mushroom enthusiasts consider higher quality than mycelium-based powders.
Serving size: About 1 tablespoon mixed with 4 to 8 ounces of water. The package weight is 9 ounces (269.32 grams). One tablespoon = 9 grams, so you should get 29.88 servings, 25 calories per serving.

Ryze
Ryze was one of the mushroom coffees I was most excited to try because it's so popular. Unfortunately, I felt let down once I finally tasted it. The flavor is less robust than Everyday Dose, like a watered-down version. It also does not mix well and leaves a large amount of residue at the bottom and sides of the cup. I found myself constantly swirling the coffee just to keep the powder suspended, yet I still ended up with sediment at the bottom of my mug.
The flavor is slightly earthy with a mild mushroomy taste, which didn't bother me, but may not appeal to everyone. One thing I do appreciate about Ryze is the variety of mushrooms included in the blend. It contains codyceps for energy support, reishi for mood balance, lion's mane for focus, shiitake for immune support, turkey tail for digestion, and king trumpet mushrooms, which are often associated with longevity benefits.

MUD\WTR
MUD\WTR was my least favorite product in this taste test. To be fair, it's marketed as a coffee alternative rather than a mushroom coffee, and I think that's an important distinction because it doesn't taste anything like coffee. Instead, it has a strong marsala chai flavor with prominent notes of cacao and spices. If you're a fan of chai tea or heavily spiced beverages, you may enjoy it more than I did. To me, it tasted like a cross between hot chocolate and masala chai. I decided to give it to my friend who loves chai tea, and she loved it.
The flavor wasn't the only thing that missed the mark for me. I also struggled with the texture and mixability. Unlike some of the brands I tested, MUD\WTR doesn't dissolve into the liquid. By the time I reached the bottom of the cup, a significant amount of sediment remained. In fact, I can see why they chose the name MUD\WTR because the bottom of the mug looked surprisingly muddy.
My husband Scott, on the other hand, had a different reaction. After his first sip, he said, "It's like Christmas," referring to the blend of spices and cacao. However, he definitely missed the coffee flavor and bitterness and found the drink too mild. Let's just say it wasn't his cup of tea… or coffee.
While it may appeal to those looking for a low-caffeine coffee substitute with warming spices, it wasn't something I would personally purchase again.

Four Sigmatic
Four Sigmatic has a wonderful flavor that is rich, robust, and unmistakably coffee-forward. Unlike some of the other mushroom coffees I tested, I didn't detect any mushroom flavor whatsoever. It also dissolves beautifully in hot water, leaving no residue or sediment behind.
Four Sigmatic is a US-based company with Finnish roots and was one of the pioneers in bringing mushroom coffee to the mainstream market. One thing that sets Four Sigmatic apart from many other competitors is that it offers mushroom coffee in multiple formats, including instant packets, K-Cups, ground coffee, and even whole coffee beans. This gives coffee lovers more options than the typical instant mushroom coffee products found on the market.
Although I was originally looking for a bag of instant mushroom coffee, I could not find that option at the time and purchased a box of 10 single-serving packets instead. The packets are convenient and easy to toss into a backpack, lunch bag, suitcase, or hunting pack, making them a great option for work, travel, camping, or days spent in the field. Since then, I've discovered that Four Sigmatic also offers a 30-serving bag of instant mushroom coffee, which currently sells for around $35.00.

Cuppa Medium Roast
Cuppa has a bold, earthy flavor that immediately reminded me of dandelion root coffee, with slightly bitter undertones and a strong, instant-coffee taste. Compared to some sweeter mushroom coffee blends, Cuppa has a more robust, traditional coffee flavor profile. It dissolved surprisingly well with very little clumping, although a small amount of residue was left at the bottom of the cup.
Serving Size: The package did not come with a scoop, but the instructions state that one serving is "about 1 tablespoon" (4.2 grams). The new packaging states (1 scoop 3.7 grams). When I measured a true tablespoon, it weighed closer to 5 grams. Since the bag contains 126 grams total, using a full tablespoon would yield closer to 25 servings rather than the 30 servings advertised on the package, 15 calories per serving.

Nature Echo
Nature Echo was one of the biggest surprises in my mushroom taste test. As soon as I opened the bag, I was greeted with a delicous aroma that reminded me of mocha, with rich notes of coffee and chocolate. It honestly smelled like walking into a coffee shop while fresh coffee beans are being ground.
Considering that it contains 2,000 mg of mushrooms, including 11 different mushrooms, plus 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract, I expected it to have a strong earthy or mushroom flavor. Surprisingly, it doesn't! The flavor is smooth and light without a noticeable mushroom aftertaste. It does have a sweeter flavor profile, most likely from the added coffee flavor, steviol glycosides, and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). If you prefer a bold, dark roasted coffee taste with noticeable bitterness, this one may not fully satisfy that craving. Instead, it leans smoother and slightly sweeter than traditional coffee.
In addition to its pleasant aroma and flavor, it mixes well into both hot water and milk without leaving behind any residue or grit. At around $19.98 a bag, it's noticeably more affordable than many other mushroom coffee brands I tested, making it an excellent value for the quality and ingredient profile. I also love that it comes in single packets, so you can enjoy your mushroom coffee anytime you want!

Venture Pal
Venture Pal initially had an interesting aroma that reminded me of flavored coffee, but after a moment, I noticed a slightly burnt scent, as if the coffee was over-roasted. That same characteristic carried through the flavor. It has a pronounced bitterness and a burnt flavor that lingers on the palate after each sip. While I personally found the burnt notes a bit overpowering, those who enjoy dark roasts and more bitter coffee flavors may appreciate it.
One feature that stood out was the included scoop. Of all the mushroom coffees I tested, Venture Pal was the only one that came with a plastic measuring scoop, which appeared to be approximately ½ teaspoon. The recommended serving size is two scoops per cup. The mixability was excellent with no residue remaining in the cup.
My husband Scott, who sampled all of these mushroom coffees with me, disagreed with my assessment of Venture Pal. He thought it smelled distinctly mushroomy and strongly disliked the flavor. It was the only coffee in our taste test where our opinions differed substantially.
Another detail worth mentioning is that Venture Pal was the only product in this roundup that was not manufactured in the United States. According to the packaging, it's made in China. Depending on your preferences, that may or may not be a consideration when choosing a mushroom coffee.
The packaging also caught my attention because its design and color scheme reminded me of Four Sigmatic. While the appearance may feel similar, the flavor profile is quite distinct, with a noticeably stronger roasted and bitter character than many of the other products tested.

Maxfit 10 Mushrooms Coffee
Maxfit directions suggest 1 teaspoon of coffee per 5 ounces of water. Upon opening the bag, the contents had a roasted, almost burnt scent. I did not detect any mushroom flavor. Nothing stood out with this mushroom coffee. It did not have a particularly rich flavor. There are no additional additives besides the ten-mushroom mix.
